Editor Outfits | Sara Moonves and Chelsea Zalopany

Sara Moonves, Fashion Editor
“The Balenciaga boots are my all time favorite. I got them so many years ago and still wear them every winter,” says Moonves. “They are incredibly warm and although they look impossible to walk in, they are actually quite comfortable. It’s freezing this week and I’m always cold, so I pile up on shearling!” Moonves is also wearing: Givenchy coat, J. Crew T-shirt, Balenciaga skirt, motorcycle bag and boots.

Chelsea Zalopany, Fashion Writer
“I live in jeans and fashion week is no exception,” says Zalopany. “I love these skinny cropped ones by Resin denim. It makes life so much easier since all I have to do is change my sweater (Jonathan Simkhai) and coat (Balenciaga motorcycle) to fit my mood. And, it’s guaranteed to be comfy and a bit chic.”

Asked & Answered | Charlotte Dellal

Nothing seems to faze her. Charlotte Dellal, the soul behind the soles of Charlotte Olympia, is in the middle of Fashion Week and her second pregnancy. She’s been traveling from London to New York and back to present her fall 2011 collection. Next up: Los Angeles for Coachella and, later this month, the premiere, her e-commerce site. Dellal is one-part Brazilian, one-part English and a total riot. She spoke with The Moment at the shoe salon at Bergdorf Goodman to reveal how she makes it all happen.

Is this the first department-store retailer in the United States to sell your shoes?

Yes, I’ve been waiting for BG, as it’s where I’ve always wanted to sell. Everyone said Bergdorf Goodman because when I came here I loved the feel of it. I didn’t go to anyone else.

The collection was inspired by Rio and a photo of your mother, the Brazilian model Andrea Della, dressed as Carmen Miranda. Where did that come from? I always have a pinup in each season and this season it is Carmen Miranda. My mother is from Rio, and I grew up in Rio visiting family, but I couldn’t do one collection on it so this is just a taste of Rio. I love that country — it’s just so big

Backstage Beauty | L’Wren Scott

“A dangerous eye — that’s what L’Wren said to me,” said the makeup artist Aaron de Mey backstage at L’Wren Scott. “It conjured up images of smokiness. I also love this kid Taylor Momsen very much — it’s interesting to see how a teenager would apply her makeup.” To wit, de Mey created an exaggerated version of the kind of black eye makeup he said Scott herself always wears, which included heaps of Lancome Hypnose Mascara (in black, of course) and black eye shadow layered over pencil for a gothic look. “There’s no highlight, no skin showing through,” he said. The hairstylist Serge Normant also was inspired by the designer: “The way L’Wren wears things, it doesn’t look overly done. The girls aren’t supposed to look like her, but I wanted that easiness.” Hair was brushed into a deep side part with volume added through the crown of the head for a “just woke up” look, which Normant set with products from his new namesake product line. The manicurist Yuna Park filled out the look with one coat of a gold-flecked black nail polish from Lancome called Noir 29, available this fall. You know you love it. XOXO.

The Fab Four

The jewelry designer Hannah Martin thinks there is something in the air in London that breeds creativity. “We are not as chic as the French, as technically brilliant as the Germans or as luxurious as the Italians,” she says, “but there is a synergy in the scene here, where people are not afraid to experiment.” Martin is among an emerging group of innovative jewelry designers creating achingly cool collections that are singularly English. Emma Franklin, another English jeweler who wears a colossal ram’s ring on her pinkie, ascribes this creativity to London’s history and the rich roots of the gentry. “I am constantly inspired,” she says.

Dominic Jones says most of his friends are designers: “It is a little community that really keeps you on your toes.” His sharp, double-spiked silver rings and geometric drop earrings are favorites of Rihanna and the glamorous Alice Dellal, who not only models in his current look book but is also his business partner.

Backstage Beauty | Post-Shows Glow

During fashion week, top skin specialists are called in to bring a slight calm to the chaos backstage. This time around, for example, Nude Skincare celebrated its second season working with Victoria Bartlett at VPL; Sunday Riley revived the faces of Jason Wu’s models; Skyn Iceland’s “stress squad” went backstage at Elise Overland; and Vermont’s Tata Harper was responsible for the glowing skin at Porter Grey and Bodkin. For a similar post-Fashion Week luster, consider the places and products listed below — on or off the runway, we all need a little pick-me-up right about now.
